The world's largest coalition representing the construction industry has joined the World Climate Summit. The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) and its partners represent more than 50% of the world's construction and involve more than 10,000 companies. By partnering with the largest business conference during COP 16, WorldGBC will bring the global building industry to find solutions to climate change.

"The built environment is unrivalled in its potential to deliver global carbon emission reductions, cost effectively while simultaneously meeting local socio-economic priorities such as energy security, job creation, and delivering affordable housing. There are 69 countries that have Green Building Councils, harnessing industry leadership to deliver aligned global solutions with local implementation. We are pleased to partner with the World Climate Summit, bringing industry leaders together with governments to create to path to a low carbon future together"."

Michael Mathres, co-Founder of the World Climate Summit said, "The construction industry is responsible for more than 40% of global carbon emissions. It is imperative that we find business solutions to this important global sector, and we are delighted that the World Green Building Council will help us achieve this."

About the World Green Building Council: In 2002 eight nations formed the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), a business led union of national councils whose mission is to accelerate the transformation of the built environment towards sustainability. The WorldGBC is rapidly building an international coalition that represents the entire global construction industry. The WorldGBC provides an international forum, and champions proven tools that significantly accelerate market transformation from traditional, inefficient building practices to new generation high-performance buildings, provide “branding”, and transform the skills and knowledge of the industry as a whole. WGBC are partners in the Clinton Climate Initiative and with the United Nation’s Environmental Programme. WGBC are also proud to support the World Business Council on Sustainable Development's “Zero Net Energy Challenge”.
